A montage by Atjecoutay (kerry) REZ-Dog an ARTIST STATEMENT I am interested to painting in Europe because of the oppressive and negative influence that colonisation had on the indigenous people of the "americas". I would like my art to be a revealing of the manner that the patriarchal figure of god supplanted the Animist Matriarchal society, but instead of creating conflict, I want to establish a parallel of familiarity between pre-Christianity (paganism) in Europe and pre-North America life. Switzerland is specifically chosen because it is a concentration of European ways of life, beliefs, cultures and stories. In this very little place it has summed up all the aspects of European cultures and minorities which are coexisting. You can observe different influences in the Swiss artistic identity (French impressionism, German romanticism, Italian renaissance).To us, who claim to have many (ab)original cultures it is a perfect place to revitalize our respective identities. The representations of aboriginal art doesn't always have to be concrete. It is time to come out of this folkloric representation of the people and it is important to take care of the abstract forms contained in our histories, collectives as well as individuals.
