Cities acknowledge charge to acid emissions at additional anniversary Covenant of Mayors ceremony

The Covenant, launched by the European Commission in 2007 and strongly supported by the Committee of the Regions, is a pledge by local and regional authorities to take concrete action to reduce their carbon footprint, going beyond the EU's agreed target of a 20% cut in emissions by 2020. The ceremony is designed to showcase the new Covenant signatories ie those who signed up between February 2009 and March 2010. More than 1300 towns, cities and local authorities have signed the Covenant of Mayors, while a further 60 signatories come from so-called 'supporting structures' regions, provinces, national and European associations of local and regional authorities, etc. Many of these regions and cities are also represented within the CoR, and the Committee has made it a priority to encourage all its members and their regions, cities or local authorities to sign the Covenant.
