New abyssal activity flourishes at once-barren Sooke seabed
The Sooke, BC wastewater treatment plant operated by EPCOR Utilities Inc. is helping in the restoration of the areas marine habitat. On a routine inspection April 2008 of the outfall that dips into the Juan de Fuca Strait, divers observed rockfish, greenling and lingcod using the structures crevices for habitat and breeding. This video contains footage from that diving expedition, showing the marine life along the 1.7-km-long, 30-metre-deep fused plastic outfall pipe, concrete weights and ballast mats. Note: This video has been moved from our old EPCOR YouTube account to this one. It was originally posted in October 2008.
