Heat and drought and drought stress can reveal underlying soil problems. When the grass starts to turn brown in specific patterns, there is a good possibility there is something wrong under the surface. This video shows some heat and drought stressed areas from compaction, buried concrete, foot traffic, and solid structures in the landscape that can heat and dry the soil. Look at your landscape for problems like this. Then plan to fix these problem areas in the fall by core aerating, digging up buried items, and/or incorporating compost or other organic matter into the soil.
