Fantasy Trail Holiday Fun Video - Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory

Wayne Wenzel started building tiny rock structures to amuse his children more than 30 years ago. Today, his hobby has turned into a charming fantasyland open to the public for Halloween and Christmas. "I'd come home from work pretty beat and I started clearing a trail through our woods to relax," says Wayne, who taught math at David Douglas high school in Portland for 34 years. "I had a lot of rocks to disperse, so I started building little rock houses for my three-year old to play in. It was a good balance for me and I just kept going, building more houses and even bridges. Once our kids were in school, their classmates started visiting. We fixed the trail with tiki torches and candles and everyone really got a kick out of it." "After I retired and our kids were grown," continues Wayne, "We still had what we referred to as the "trail thing," so we opened it for the public and I built the castle and larger structures." "Most of the visiting kids spend lots of time at the Pirate ship where there's quite a large suspension bridge leading to a wooden maze," says Janice Wenzel, who helps her husband maintain the site. "It's not only for children. We like to keep it fun for everyone, no matter what the age." Walk through the woods along the lighted Fantasy Trail in October and experience spooky Halloween sights and sounds. Nothing jumps out that would scare young children (or some of us skittish adults!) like many "haunted" settings, but you will see animated scenes featuring ...
