REEFBUDS Background: Because of the destruction of coastal fish sanctuaries, due to over fishing, industrial pollution, land conversion/reclamation etc, fish have disappeared from coastal waters and small fishermen with small outrigger bancas are forced to go further out to sea, requiring greater expense in procuring bigger fishing vessels, fishing equipment and general logistics. Even with organized cooperatives, smaller fishermen are no match for big organized fishing groups that have all the resources. In early 2007, the Yes2life Foundation launched a reef restoration project using new artificial reef technology (REEFbuds) and grant funds from a World Bank CDM Project Competition Panibagong Paraan 2006 . The project was initially funded and monitored by PACAP. (Philippines Australia Community Assistance Programs). REEF Buds are new technology artificial reefs invented by an Austrian geoscientist , the late Dr. Harald Kremnitz. and Filipino Benjamin Tayag, Jr of the Yes2life Foundation. Dr. Kremnitz was a Doctor of Geological Engineering and was responsible for revolutionary developments in environmental management during his 25 years of research. REEFBUD technology was one such concept.
